Special Issues – Themed Collections
CJOG publishes special issues focusing on timely and high-impact themes within obstetrics, gynecology and women’s health. These collections bring together invited contributions and open calls for submissions around a defined topic. A dedicated guest-editorial team often leads the compilation of a special issue.
Submission details for special issues:
- Proposals for guest editors can be submitted at any time via a downloadable form.
- A special issue should include a minimum number of papers (for example, 4 accepted papers in addition to 2 free papers offered to the lead guest-editor) for publication.
- The article processing charge (APC) for a special-issue manuscript is currently US$ 1849, inclusive of processing, archiving, design and promotion.
- Authors of invited or special-issue contributions may request a discount or waiver, subject to funding availability and region.
- All manuscripts for a special issue undergo the same peer‐review and editorial evaluation standards as regular submissions.
Submission Process – Step-by-Step
Here is the recommended workflow for submitting your manuscript to CJOG:
- Consider the fit: Ensure your manuscript aligns with the journal’s aims and scope (see Aims & Scope). Assess novelty, relevance and global context.
- Prepare your manuscript according to the Author Guidelines and Manuscript Preparation instructions (see separate menu). Ensure ethical approvals, disclosures, patient consent, and adherence to reporting guidelines such as CONSORT, PRISMA or STROBE where applicable.
- Register or log in to the CJOG online submission system and create a new submission. Provide full author details, affiliations, ORCID identifiers, keywords, abstract, and suggested reviewers if required.
- Upload separate files for manuscript text, figures, tables, supplementary material, and cover letter. Ensure figures are in high-resolution JPEG/PNG and tables are accessible formats (not images).
- During submission authors may request waiver or discount for APC based on funder or region; indicate this in your cover letter.
- After submission, the manuscript will be assigned to an Associate Editor, undergo double-blind peer review, revision and final decision. On acceptance, the article will be formatted, given a DOI, and published online in an upcoming issue.
- Promotion: Once published, authors are encouraged to disseminate their work via their networks, institutional channels and social media; CJOG will support by sharing via official channels.
Important Dates & Scheduling
While the journal operates on a continuous online-first publication model, regular issues are released quarterly. Special issues follow their own schedule and may specify a fixed submission deadline and publication date in the guest-editor launch call.
Author Support & Equity Measures
CJOG is committed to equitable publishing opportunities. We encourage submissions from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) and authors in under-represented regions. Fee waiver or discount requests are assessed on a case-by-case basis and must be indicated at submission. Institutional memberships may also cover processing costs (see APC & Waiver menu items).
Tips for Strong Submissions
- Ensure your research question is clearly defined and has relevance to obstetrics/gynecology practice or policy.
- Articulate how your work addresses a gap in existing literature or contributes new evidence—especially in under-studied populations or settings.
- Adhere closely to reporting standards (CONSORT, STROBE, PRISMA, ARRIVE, etc.) and include a data-sharing statement if applicable.
- Present tables and figures in accessible formats and provide alt-text for images when applicable.
- Use inclusive language and report demographic details (e.g., maternal age, geographic settings, ethnicity) to enhance transparency and diversity in research reporting.
- Consider linking your data, code or supplementary material via a repository (e.g., Dryad, Zenodo) and citing the repository as part of your submission.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Can I submit a manuscript that was previously rejected elsewhere?
Yes. CJOG welcomes strong manuscripts regardless of prior submission history, provided you include a detailed cover letter that explains previous peer-review feedback (if any) and how your revised version addresses them. Transparency about prior rejection is appreciated.
Are there fast-track options for urgent public-health topics (e.g., COVID-19, maternal health emergencies)?
Yes—in cases of urgent global public-health relevance (for example, maternal outcomes during pandemic settings) authors may request expedited review during submission. Authors should justify the need for urgency in the cover letter.
Is submission free? Are there publishing charges?
Submission of manuscripts is free (no submission fee). Upon acceptance, authors incur an article processing charge (APC) unless covered by an institutional membership or waiver. For special-issue submissions the standard APC at time of writing is US$ 2949.
Can I suggest a special issue topic?
Yes—researchers and guest-editors may propose themed special issues by completing the downloadable proposal form and providing guest-editor details, theme rationale and timeline.
Conclusion
We look forward to receiving your manuscripts and thank you in advance for contributing to the advancement of women’s health, maternal and reproductive medicine. Whether from high-resource or low-resource settings, your work has the potential to make a difference through CJOG.
