The Clinical Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology (CJOG) is committed to publishing high-quality, open-access research that advances clinical practice, translational science and policy in obstetrics and gynecology across diverse global contexts. Launched with a global focus, CJOG supports authors from every region, including under-represented settings, and seeks to bridge gaps between research, clinical care and equitable policy.

Mission

The mission of CJOG is to provide an inclusive, rigorous and timely platform for clinicians, researchers and allied health professionals in obstetrics and gynecology to disseminate original clinical data, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, case series, educational reports and commentary. Our goal is to improve maternal and reproductive health outcomes globally, support the translation of evidence into practice, and promote the free exchange of knowledge across regions.

Scope

CJOG welcomes submissions covering all facets of obstetrics and gynecology, including but not limited to:

  • Maternal morbidity and mortality, high-risk obstetrics, pregnancy complications
  • Fetal medicine and perinatal epidemiology
  • Reproductive endocrinology and infertility, assisted reproductive technologies
  • Gynecologic oncology, fertility preservation and survivorship
  • Minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, robotics and laparoscopic innovation
  • Uro-gynecology, pelvic floor dysfunction and uro-reconstructive surgery
  • Global women’s health, health systems, equity, low-resource settings and policy research
  • Ultrasonography, imaging, diagnostics and biomarkers within obstetrics/gynecology
  • Case reports, short communications, letters to the editor, and research protocols.

These focal areas reflect the combined ambition of integrating both obstetrics and gynecology disciplines and enabling cross-disciplinary advances.

Article Types

Our journal accepts a range of article types to suit varying levels of research and clinical documentation:

Type Description
Original Research Article Reports of fully developed research including study design, methods, results, discussion and implications for practice.
Systematic Review / Meta-analysis A detailed synthesis of existing evidence, often with quantitative meta-analysis and implications for future practice/research.
Clinical Case Series / Case Report Documenting novel, rare or instructive clinical scenarios with appropriate discussion of implications and literature context.
Short Communication / Brief Report Concise reports of emerging findings or pilot data of relevance to obstetrics or gynecology.
Editorial / Commentary Expert commentary or narrative reflection on current issues, future directions or methodological debates in the field.

Journal Features & Audience

CJOG supports authors through a seamless submission workflow, constructive peer-review and rapid publication. The journal emphasizes accessibility, global reach and author-friendly services—especially for early-career researchers and those in low- and middle-income countries.

The primary audience includes obstetricians, gynecologists, maternal–fetal medicine specialists, reproductive endocrinologists, health system researchers, global health and policy practitioners, and allied health professionals focusing on women’s health.

Global Reach & Equity

In line with our open-access model, CJOG promotes equitable dissemination of research across geographies. We actively encourage submissions from regions historically under-represented in academic publishing and support author development through mentoring, language assistance and waiver options (see Waiver Policy). The editorial board is internationally diverse, reflecting perspectives from many regions and promoting global relevance.

Quality Standards & Ethical Commitment

CJOG adheres to international best-practice standards for peer review, data transparency, conflict-of-interest disclosure and research integrity—drawing guidance from organisations such as Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) and World Association of Medical Editors (WAME). Authors are expected to comply with these standards. This underlines our commitment to reliability, reproducibility and trust in published work.

Why This Scope Matters

Obstetrics and gynecology are rapidly evolving fields—advances in prenatal diagnostics, minimally invasive surgery, reproductive technologies and global maternal health have accelerated in recent years. CJOG’s combined scope recognises that bridging obstetrics and gynecology as integrated disciplines can accelerate translational impact, foster interdisciplinary collaboration and address gaps in women’s health globally. For example, a study exploring the impact of AI in fetal monitoring might cross-link obstetric fetal medicine and surgical gynecology; likewise a policy-oriented piece analysing postpartum pelvic floor dysfunction in low-resource settings integrates clinical gynecology, public health and maternal care.
